The Gendo collection ("movement" in Japanese) is the first collaboration between Maki Yamamoto and Melissa Dougherty. Each piece is a collage of handmade and collectible textiles--with couture’s pleats, flowers and bows, painterly color and hand-sewn lines. Textiles are allowed to project texture and shape, acting simultaneously as upholstery and art. This new, more artistic vision establishes a new movement for upholstered seating as well: Textile treatments are created specifically for individual pieces, which are then assembled using traditional upholstery techniques.
