Kalpvriksh Homes All Natural We are a company that has as its heart globally inspired modern products that are created with sustainability and integrity. We value and prioritize ethical and sustainable conduct in an effort to create products that symbolize social consciousness, the conservation of nature and the ecosystem of the Himalayas. Kalpvriksh works with its partner NGO, in the upper Himalayas to harvest natural fibre that grows freely in the watershed and reserve forest areas where communities have held the rights to forest resources since centuries. Nettle & Hemp We work with our partner NGO, to harvest natural fiber from the forests in the watershed and reserve forest areas of the upper Himalayas. We ensure seed maturity and also do an immense amount of seed sowing (using the spreading method) in the open forest, including from where we harvest the fibre. In the last four years, we have covered approximately 40 Hectares of sowing of Girardinia heterphylla, the Himalayan Nettle, in the Chamoli, Garhwal. The strong lustrous Nettle fabric is an unusual textile that is derived from the nettle plant that grows freely in the marshy, shaded stretches of watershed and reserve forest areas. The nettle plant has been used traditionally as foder for livestock, to make tea and a plant dye. The fabric is made from the fibres within the stalks of the plant, not the silky barbs on the outer surface. Some notable properties of nettle fabric: Despite its armored exterior, the fibers inside are surprisingly ideal for textile production. Fibers are pliable and a good length to be spun into yarn. The final woven fabric is similar to linen but much stronger (the strength even increases when wet) and a bit stiffer. It blends nicely with other fibers, which can help to add softness and increase longevity when needed. In terms of sustainability, using the nettles in textiles is highly ideal. |
